My son Nolan was Born on October 28, 2010 at Signature Healthcare Brockton's Maternity Ward. The pediatricians (Dr.Naken) and Lactation specialists in the Maternity ward took unnecessary risks while caring for my son. My son was born 3 1/2 weeks preterm. He lost over 10 of his body weight while he was at Signature. He also had increasing levels of Jaundice (a billirubin of 9.8 upon discharge). We were sent home less than 48 hrs after my sons birth. While at home my Son continued to lose weight and his Billirubin level (jaundice) rose significantly overnight. My wife and I made an appointment with our pediatrician the next day and she was shocked and appaled that Signature allowed our son to be discharged in his condition! We were immediately admitted to Morton hospital in Taunton and my son's problems were corrected.
Brockton hospital failed to properly test my sons billirubin levels and also never advised us to supplement our breastfeeding with formula to ensure Nolan was getting the proper nutrients. So in essence they sent our son home sick and starving!
Thanks to the quick actions of our pediatrician a disaster was avoided. However, if Signature did their due diligence and was not worried about insurance bonuses (my opinion) there would have never been an issue in the first place!
Expecting moms stay away! Your child's life may depend on it!
