Redwood Memorial Hospital is a gem in our community. Recently our mother was brought to ER and then admitted to med surge and ICU. Words can not express the gratitude we have for how not only our mother was treated but we the family as well. Everyone from the doctors, nurses, security guards, housekeeping and extensive team of volunteers were top notch. From the first night in ER when Russell made sure that she was transferred to a more comfortable bed, to the amazing nursing staff not only compassionately and professionally caring for her medical needs, but making sure my sisters and I were comfortable and cared for during the process as well. I am fortunate to live in Fortuna and know of RMH , but the rest of my family who live outside the area were totally amazed at our "small" town hospital. We were at the hospital around the clock and who could have imagined that we were supplied with a cart in her room with coffee, snacks and fruit refreshed everyday for us. Tina made sure we all had a place to sleep at night and even brought us warm blankets to comfort us. Amber heated our dinner at the nurses lounge one night. Rose, Susan and Angie also tended to not only Mom's needs, but ours as well. We saw how busy these nurses were with their patients and duties but they were always making sure the family's needs were also tended to. Even when they were not assigned to Mom, it wasn't uncommon for them to pop in and make sure we were ok. Sometimes it was a hug in the hallway, sometimes a cool glass of water or an encouraging word. We were all even treated to live music with a choir on Easter and a wonderful guitarist/vocalist that came in the room and sang for all of us. There is also the chaplin service which has a policy that no one dies alone. Mom had us but for those who do not have anyone by their bedside, there is team of volunteers that step in and make sure that they are not alone. We are so grateful to this team of people that seem more like family then staff. We will forever remember the kindness we were shown. We are more than grateful to have such a top notch hospital in our town. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
